Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 15, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Grocery Reminder ("we", "our", or "the app") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our iOS application. By using the app, you agree to the practices described below.
1. About the App
Grocery Reminder is a pantry management and shopping list app for iOS. It helps users track grocery items, monitor stock levels, share lists with household members, and receive reminders to restock items before they run out.
2. Data We Collect
| Category | Data Points | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| User Identifiers | Name, email, profile emoji & color, unique user ID, last-seen timestamp | Authentication and identifying members in shared households |
| Inventory Data | Item names, icons, categories, duration, notes, restock dates | Core functionality — tracking stock levels and expiration |
| Collaboration Data | Household names, invite codes, activity logs | Enabling shared pantry features and transparency between members |
| App Usage Data | Event tracking (item additions, household creation, screen views) | Improving performance and understanding engagement |
| Device Info | Device identifiers (IDFA / IDFV), motion data | Personalized advertising and analytics (with your consent) |
3. How We Use Your Data
- Provide core functionality — pantry tracking, shopping lists, and reminders.
- Sync your data securely across devices via Firebase.
- Enable real-time collaboration in shared households.
- Send local notifications (scheduled on-device) to remind you about low-stock items.
- Improve performance through anonymous analytics.
- Display advertisements to users on the free tier.
- Validate Premium subscriptions.
4. Third-Party Services
We integrate trusted third-party SDKs that may process data on our behalf. Each provider has its own privacy policy:
- Firebase Authentication — Sign-in via Google, Apple, or email/password.
- Firebase Firestore — Cloud database storing pantry, household, and profile data.
- Firebase Analytics — Anonymous usage statistics and custom events.
- Google AdMob — Displays ads to non-premium users; uses Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework.
- RevenueCat — Manages in-app subscriptions and validates Premium status.
5. Advertising & App Tracking Transparency
Free-tier users see Interstitial, App Open, Rewarded, and Native ads provided by Google AdMob. In compliance with Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) framework, the app explicitly asks for your permission before tracking your activity for personalized advertising. If you decline, you will still see ads, but they will not be personalized.
6. Family Sharing (Households)
When you create or join a Household, your name, profile emoji/color, and the actions you perform (adding, restocking, deleting items) are visible to other members of that household via shared activity logs. You can leave a household at any time from the app's settings.
7. Your Rights & Controls
- Account Deletion: Use the "Delete Account" option in settings to fully wipe your data — items, settings, profile — from Firebase and remove yourself from any shared households.
- Anonymous Mode: Use the app via anonymous sign-in without providing an email.
- ATT Control: Manage tracking permissions in iOS Settings → Privacy → Tracking.
- Notifications: Manage local notification permissions in iOS Settings.
- Data Access: Contact us anytime to request a copy of your data.
8. Security & Retention
Your data is stored securely on Google Firebase infrastructure with encryption in transit and at rest. We retain your data only as long as your account is active. Upon account deletion, all associated personal data is permanently removed, typically within 30 days.
9. Children's Privacy
Grocery Reminder is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
Grocery Reminder is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free from viruses or other harmful components. Reminders, expiration estimates, stock levels, and notifications are provided for convenience only and should not be relied upon for health, dietary, medical, financial, or any other critical decisions.
You are solely responsible for verifying the freshness, safety, and suitability of any food or grocery item before use or consumption. The app's "duration" and "urgency" calculations are estimates based on user input and do not reflect actual product expiration dates.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the developers, owners, affiliates, and contributors of Grocery Reminder shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the app.
- Loss of data, items, shopping lists, or household information.
- Spoiled, expired, missed, or incorrectly tracked grocery items.
- Missed, delayed, or failed notifications and reminders.
- Health issues or illness from consuming tracked items.
- Financial loss or duplicate purchases.
- Disputes between household members.
- Service interruptions or third-party provider failures.
- Any advertisements or links displayed within the app.
You agree that your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the app is to stop using it and delete it from your device.
12. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy and your use of the app shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with applicable laws.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
